Kymera Magic Wand functions as universal remote

Universal remotes are a dime a dozen and usually are overpriced. They are also notorious for being excessively boring. That is except for the massive ones meant to be a joke about someone’s age or being blind. Instead of going with your usual gray remote control with too many buttons, you could go a slightly more magical route. Instead of pushing buttons you could wave around your magic wand to make the channels change.

The Kymera Magic Wand can be flicked up or down in order to change the channel. If you need the volume up or down you turn it in a clockwise motion. It has a total of 13 “magical functions” in order to perform actions on your TV. The wand is battery powered and they’re kind enough to actually include the batteries for once. As of now this isn’t out, but don’t worry, it is coming soon. You can currently pre-order this. In order to do that you’ll have to pay a deposit of £10 or about $17. All together the wand will cost you £49.95 or about $83.

LG unleashes full HD LED LCD HDTV

When LCD TVs first hit the market, we were bowled over by their apparent slimness compared to what we see in our living rooms dominated by fat, chunky CRTs. Well, times have definitely changed (for the better) as CRTs have been phased out since then, and LCD TVs are the de facto standard when it comes to your living room viewing experience. LG ups the ante further with their latest release of a full HD LED LCD HDTV which is more or less as thin as it gets, bearing the image of a single sheet of glass. Making a splash at CEDIA 2009, the new SL90 series of HDTVs from LG will come in 42″ and 47″ sizes, where they both will feature LED lighting and other stunning display technologies.

LG employs a single-layer design and a narrow bezel in order to develop a visually stunning set, where the main target is to maximize the viewing experience while increasing the market value of your home by a notch as whoever drops by for a visit will definitely note the good taste you have in furnishing your pad with nothing but the very best. A special film lamination technology is used for better color tuning, gradation and reduction of glare, where it is all squeezed into a sleek, minimalist package. The flat surface is achieved by the lamination process, where it virtually does away with the visible line between the screen and the bezel whenever no power is supplied to the set.

Sporting a maximum depth of just 1.5″, LG’s SL90 series’ usage of the LED LCD screen will produce an extremely high dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 that results in ever truer blacks (this is where the philosophical question of whether truth is relative or not can be answered) and finer gradations between grays. Apart from that, the film lamination process adds anti-glare properties to the screen by reducing distracting reflections so that anyone who views it will always enjoy a cinema-quality experience. LG will release the 42″ and 47″ models later this Fall for $2,099 and $2,599, respectively.

Panasonic Launches Blu-ray Disc(TM) Home Theater System

Work is extremely demanding these days, and as the saying goes, “a man’s home is his castle” so why not pamper yourself whenever you’re back after a long, hard day at the office? Instead of investing in a spa system, why not keep that mind entertained with the latest blockbusters while your ears enjoy above average audio quality through the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system? This innovative setup will come in a chic design that will definitely complement your flat panel TV regardless of the brand (Panasonic folks will claim it works best with Panasonic VIERAs, of course), while you let your Blu-ray player keep you entertained

Despite coming in a sleek and compact form factor, the SC-BTX70 is no slouch in terms of performance. It might be a 2.1 system, and yet Panasonic has thrown in enough technology to make sure this delivers realistic virtual 7.1 channel sound through a wide listening area. This is made possible thanks to Panasonic’s advanced proprietary surround technology that is able to pump out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD virtual 7.1-channel surround sound. A couple of front speakers that feature a new top mounted speaker design that further expands the listening area, were specially built using rigid, low-density bamboo cones in order to achieve pure sound and crisp dialogue no matter what movie you’re viewing. The Kelton-type subwoofer will ensure robust, reverberating bass for heart-thumping moments, while the 96-kHz Surround Re-master function makes sure your CDs sound pristine.

Within its ultra slim main unit, the power sliding door will open to reveal a Blu-ray Disc player for all your high definition movie needs. No idea on whether this one will work with VUDU services in the future, but we won’t rule it out just yet. Other functions include a Universal Dock for iPod, an SD memory card slot, and a USB terminal. Expect the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system to be out sometime this month for a shade under a grand.

NBA Legends in Manila

NBA Legends (left to right): Dominique Wilkins, Tim Hardaway, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rory White, Robert Horry, Vlade Divac

By Charley Bautista-Braga
Yahoo! Philippines
Five of the greatest players in NBA history are in Manila for an exhibition game against the PBA All-Stars, for the NBA Asia Challenge 2009 on Friday, September 11 at the Araneta Coliseum. These NBA Legends include Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Tim Hardaway, Vlade Divac, Dominique Wilkins and Robert Horry, who are pitting themselves up in an event, dubbed as the most ambitious and largest ever basketball event in the country.

The NBA Asia Challenge features the NBA Generations team, made up of the NBA Legends and the NBA Development League players in an exhibition game against the PBA All-Stars which include Alvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Ronnie Magsanoc, Benjie Paras, and Kenneth Duremdes, to name a few. Also accompanying the NBA Legends are The Dunking Divas, the dance troupe of the New Jersey Nets who’ll be on hand to provide on-ground entertainment, and Sly the Silver Fox, the team’s mascot.
NBA greats Robert "Big Shot Rob" Horry and Vlade Divac

Yahoo! Philippines chatted with NBA greats Robert “Big Shot Rob” Horry, and Vlade Divac, and this is what they had to share to basketball fans:

On the Philippines:

Divac: I’m very excited to be here. I heard that the Philippines is definitely a basketball country, and people really love the game here. This country has had an impact on my career. When I was 10 years old, my national team won the World Championship title in Manila in 1978, so that’s when I started playing basketball. I started when I was 10, and was drafted by the NBA when I was 21, 11 years later.

Horry: I unfortunately haven’t been able to watch any PBA, but I’m thrilled at how popular the game is here. We were just in Korea, and the thing about Asian basketball players is that they’re great guys, very skilled. I would say the one thing they have against them is size, and unfortunately you can’t teach size. They’re very skilled players though.

On basketball, and being a clutch player

Horry: It’s been fun playing with those guys, because those guys are the megastars of the team. Sometimes you’re not considered in the same breath, but you know those guys, they also value what you could do on the floor with them. These are the guys who are going to get talked about when the game ends, and they trust you to get those shots nailed down.

On the U.S. and playing pro basketball

Divac: I played four years professionally in my country, and the Lakers drafted me for the NBA. It was tough for a couple of years, playing with a different style of game. I also didn’t speak any English, but on the other hand I was lucky to end up with an organization like the Lakers, so they helped me to make the transition much easier. My advice to other imports is to spread the feeling of really loving the game. When you do that, everything else is easy. Also, do the mental work because everyone can shoot hoops, everyone can jump around, but it’s those little things that are difficult which can help distinguish you from the rest.

On luck, and career

Horry: I don’t think my career was about luck. It was about joining a team at the right time, like any kind of match or relationship, it was about finding the right match. So when you find the right kind of match, anything can happen. When I first joined the league, I thought Houston was the best match for my skills and from then on it just went on to better things. When I look at every team I’ve played, it was a great match for my talent and it was a great match for the team. Of course, there’s always going to be superstars in the team, but they’re not going to be superstars without adding that one “link,” and I always felt that I was that missing link that would make the team stronger.

Divac: I always believe in doing better, always moving forward. Everyday is a new day.

Words for people wishing to enter professional basketball

Divac: Maybe in your dream you can’t be the best basketball player, you can’t play in the NBA but you can find a way to be attached to the game in some different way where you can make a difference.

Horry: You know, you have to learn how to play the game the correct way. You have to go out and do everything, whatever it takes–walk, crawl or run – just practice the skills, the game know-how. Practice a great amount of time, and maybe you’ll get better. Also, you need to pit yourself against a team or other people who’ll help you stretch your talent. When you stretch your talent, you’ll have that experience to make yourself better.

***

About Robert Horry: Robert “Big Shot Rob” Horry’s career highlights include playing with the Houston Rockets and winning back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995, and again with the LA Lakers from 2000 to 2002. Horry is only one of nine players to win seven or more NBA championships, and only one of three players to win NBA Championships with two different teams in consecutive seasons.

About Vlade Divac: A Serbian national, Divac played for the Yugoslavian National Team and led his team to win an Olympic Silver Medal in Seoul, Korea, until he was pirated by the LA Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, and the Sacramento Kings. He ranks fourth in Lakers history with 830 blocked shots, and joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players in NBA history to amass 13,000 points, 9,000 rebounds, 3,000 assists, and 1,500 blocked shots.

Tickets for the first-ever NBA Asia Challenge are now on sale at Ticketnet outlets at SM Malls, or online at www.ticketnet.com.ph. Ticket prices are at P2,640 (Patron), P2112 (Lower Box), P1320 (Upper Box A), P792 (Upper Box B) and P264 (General Admission). For more information, please log onto www.nba.com/asiachallenge2009.

How To Bypass Megavideo Time Limits!

i think 72 min. lang w/o premium access to watch...here's the trick...

How to Bypass Megavideo Time Limits without premium access!

For Firefox Users...

Go here to download the "DownloadHelper" FireFox add-on
http://www.downloadhelper.net/install.php
Once installed restart your firefox as the program requests.

Choose your favorite megavideo link and once loaded, click play then immediately pause your video.

To the left of your address bar should now be swirling colourfull balloons. Click on the drop arrow and choose your video.

In order to preserve your Megavideo times, you may now wish to close the window (your download should continue)

For all Users (The easiest way)

Simply letting the video load all the way and then working offline will allow you to watch the whole video.

Go to file (top left on your browser bar) and click offline or disconnect your modem/internet .

===================================================

Bypassing Megavideo Time limits using a Proxy

Here's a working USA Transparent proxy server address, just tested after getting the 72 minute notification: 63.214.136.151:3128

Put it in FF Tools/Options/Advanced/Settings. It will probably work for a day or two.
Note: The numbers after the colon: 3128, go in the Port field. The colon is NOT used in the HTTP Proxy field.

Use a USA Transparent proxy server to connect to Megavideo, Supernovatube, etc. if your country is blocked.

Here's where to put the proxy server address in FF....
How to Bypass Megavideo Time Limits!

Another Tip
There is no need to wait for a video to buffer in Megavideo.

Just mouse-over the time bar to move the slider to where you want the video to begin, after a few seconds, the video will begin to play from that point forward.

This is a good way to resume a video if you got timed out earlier.

===================================================

For non Firefox users....

If Megavideo download link is http://www.megavideo.com/?XXXXXXX

Then replace the URL to the following format:

http://anonym.to/?http://www.megavideo.com/?XXXXXXX

Alternatively, use any anonymous surfing service such as Anonymouse or Guardster free web proxy to bypass the Megavideo download limit. Steps to use Guardster to bypass Megavideo Country limit are:

1. Go to the following site: http://www.guardster.com/subscription/proxy_free.php
2. Input the Megavideo download link in the Address text box. (where you will see http:// in the box)
3. Uncheck (Unselect) all the options, like No Cookies, No Scripts, No Images, Hide Referrer, Hide User Agent, Hide Title, Hide Header.
4. Click on the button "I agree an wish to surf anonymously".

Another workaround for Megavideo slots limit is by using Google Language Tool translation capability.

1. Go to Google Language Tool, and scroll to Translate section. Or you can go direct to Google Translate.
2. Input Megavideo download link into the tex box (where you can see http://) below the "Translate a web page:".
3. For "from" option, the default (depending on your Google interface) English to German will do the trick, although other options will likely to allow the hack too.
4. Click on the "Translate" after the language option, and wait for the Megavideo download page to load, which allows you to start downloading immediately without the limitation by download limit per country.
