It’s astounding how many arguments get solved by hopping on the internet and going straight to Wikipedia. It informs you on all the random bits of knowledge you never knew you needed. Of course you can’t always just hop on the website to check on that information. Especially if you don’t have a smart phone of any kind. Well for those that want to have access to that knowledge without being connected to the internet, now you can have Wikipedia with you at all times.

Just carry around the WikiReader and it’ll let you learn all the useless knowledge you’ll never need. You don’t have to ever be connected to the internet to look up the information either. Which means you can even learn when you’re far away from the rest of civilization. To keep it updated you’ll have to pay a $29 subscription fee to Wikipedia. Then to purchase the little handheld device itself it’ll cost you $99. It only has three actual buttons and then a touchscreen to handle the rest of the typing. It requires two AAA batteries to keep up and running. The device has become officially available as of today.

GPS and Bluetooth Shoes

Well, I suppose it was about time that someone made a shoe with GPS and Bluetooth compatibility. I’m just surprised that it wasn’t Nike. No, the Isaac Daniel Compass and Blue GPS shoes are most likely a first for the shoe industry, and I’m certain they won’t be the only company with a Blue GPS shoe after a while.

Now, you may ask yourself: why would I want a shoe that is Bluetooth and GPS enabled? Well, if that shoe is linked to your phone via Bluetooth, it can use its GPS functionality to let everyone know where you are. That is, if you are willing to let your friends track you online. I suppose you could use these shoes to track people who tend to wander out of their safe zones, like the elderly or small children (assuming their little feet would fit in these shoes).
In all honesty, I’m really not famous enough to have anyone want to track me by my longitude and latitude. I’m guessing the people who are famous enough to have anyone care about their every movement probably have their own paparazzi following them around anyway. In that case, they probably wouldn’t want their movements to be tracked. Ah, don’t you just love the society we live in?

Halo Over Moscow City

And you thought rainbows were cool. A few days ago, a mysterious cloud shaped like a halo appeared over Moscow, and the buzz has yet to break

We're the first to admit that a photograph of the heavenly cloud appears to be photoshopped. It's just so...perfect. But meterologists have spoken up and said the cloud wasn't digitally altered. However, it wasn't exactly what it appeared to be, either.

When the cloud initially formed, some UFO enthusiasts declared it to be a "true mystery." Some even compared it to the giant spaceship hovering over Earth in the movie "Independence Day." Reality quickly dashed any predictions of an alien invasion. An article from the Daily Mail explains that the "luminous ring-shaped cloud" was simply an optical effect.

An official spokesperson for Moscow's weather department said, "Several fronts have been passing through Moscow recently, there was an intrusion of the Arctic air too, the sun was shining from the west — this is how the effect was produced."

The cloud loomed last week, but the searches are still soaring. Lookups on "halo cloud" and "moscow cloud" are both booming, and a video clip has garnered hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. You can check it out for yourself below...

Warship Built with Steel

AVONDALE, La. – A Navy assault ship built with tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center towers began its journey to New York on Tuesday, sailing down the Mississippi River in a pea-soup fog as watchers along the levee strained for a glimpse.

The USS New York, named to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, left the Northrop Grumman shipyard where it was built for the trip to its namesake city. The $1 billion ship will be formally commissioned in New York in early November.
The New York is 684 feet long and can carry up to 800 Marines. It has a flight deck that can handle helicopters and the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.
Four tugboats performed an intricate set of maneuvers to pull the warship from the dock at the New Orleans-area shipyard and turn it 180 degrees toward the waters of Gulf of Mexico. An armed Coast Guard speedboat and a helicopter flying overhead guarded the vessel. The ship will sail through the Gulf and around Florida before turning north and continuing to New York.
Deputy project manager Doug Lounsberry said the vessel was important to the builders, not only because it honors those killed in the terrorist attacks, but because workers were hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 during the early phases of construction.
"It's like raising a kid," Lounsberry said. "We're sending this one off to college. But after they leave, they remain near and dear to your heart."
Farther down the Mississippi, hundreds of people lined up along the river bank to watch the ship pass. Around 9:45 a.m., a man called "Here she comes!" prompting well-wishers to raise U.S. flags and camera phones, as the hulking warship emerged from the haze.
Tourists Dorice and Victor Brown and Christine Cox, of Sterling, Va., were getting coffee and pastries at a nearby cafe when they asked about the commotion and decided to check it out for themselves.
"It's awesome for anything so tragic to be so uplifting here," Cox said, just after the ship had passed.
Brian Corcoran, a mechanical contractor, brought his four children, who range in age from 12 to 5. He figured they might be a bit late for school but was OK with that, given the importance of the occasion.
"Hopefully, it's going overseas to do damage to them like it did to us," he said.
When terrorist hijackers crashed two jetliners into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, destroying the twin towers and killing nearly 2,800 people, the ship was already on the drawing board. In September 2002, the Defense Department announced the selection of New York as the ship's name, honoring the city and state and those who died in the attacks.
About 7.5 tons of World Trade Center steel was melted at the Bradken Inc. foundry in Amite, La., and used in the New York's bow.
The New York revives a name held by at least four other Navy ships, including a Spanish-American War-era cruiser, a battleship that served in World Wars I and II and a nuclear submarine retired from the fleet in 1997.
The ship is a San Antonio-class amphibious dock vessel. The first four ships in the series — the USS San Antonio, USS New Orleans, USS Mesa Verde and USS Green Bay — are in service. Four other ships in the class ate under construction: Somerset and Anchorage at the Avondale yard, and Arlington and San Diego at Northrop Grumman's yard in Pascagoula, Miss.
Arlington and Somerset also carry names connected to the Sept. 11 attacks: Arlington for the attack on the Pentagon and Somerset for the Pennsylvania county in which United Airlines Flight 93 crashed after being hijacked.

Coosh Headphones

I’ve reviewed many headphones and earbuds, and I have discovered very little that differentiates one brand from the other. The Coosh headphones are definitely the most unique that I have seen in quite a while.

Coosh headphones (not to be mistaken for the Koosh line of weird rubbery fuzzy balls) are made by the BIC company. As you can see by the silicone earring, these phones will stay in your ear a lot better than a BIC pen on your ear. They also come with a high capacity clip on the wire for a little added staying power. The Coosh website shows a man breakdancing with these things on, and the Coosh headphones stay on while he is upside-down.
By the way, these earrings are completely detachable, so if you don’t want that look, or if you’re not into active activities like breakdancing, then you can go without them. As for the sound, it is quite good with “full-bodied stereo sound quality” that is as good as it is advertised.
The Coosh headphones come in both white or black. A pair for the iPod or other compatible MP3 Player costs about $24.99. Coosh headphones for the iPhone, Blackberry, or other music compatible phone cost about $29.99. The extra money is apparently for the in-line headset mic with push-to-answer and mute buttons.
