Kymera Magic Wand functions as universal remote

Universal remotes are a dime a dozen and usually are overpriced. They are also notorious for being excessively boring. That is except for the massive ones meant to be a joke about someone’s age or being blind. Instead of going with your usual gray remote control with too many buttons, you could go a slightly more magical route. Instead of pushing buttons you could wave around your magic wand to make the channels change.

The Kymera Magic Wand can be flicked up or down in order to change the channel. If you need the volume up or down you turn it in a clockwise motion. It has a total of 13 “magical functions” in order to perform actions on your TV. The wand is battery powered and they’re kind enough to actually include the batteries for once. As of now this isn’t out, but don’t worry, it is coming soon. You can currently pre-order this. In order to do that you’ll have to pay a deposit of £10 or about $17. All together the wand will cost you £49.95 or about $83.

LG unleashes full HD LED LCD HDTV

When LCD TVs first hit the market, we were bowled over by their apparent slimness compared to what we see in our living rooms dominated by fat, chunky CRTs. Well, times have definitely changed (for the better) as CRTs have been phased out since then, and LCD TVs are the de facto standard when it comes to your living room viewing experience. LG ups the ante further with their latest release of a full HD LED LCD HDTV which is more or less as thin as it gets, bearing the image of a single sheet of glass. Making a splash at CEDIA 2009, the new SL90 series of HDTVs from LG will come in 42″ and 47″ sizes, where they both will feature LED lighting and other stunning display technologies.

LG employs a single-layer design and a narrow bezel in order to develop a visually stunning set, where the main target is to maximize the viewing experience while increasing the market value of your home by a notch as whoever drops by for a visit will definitely note the good taste you have in furnishing your pad with nothing but the very best. A special film lamination technology is used for better color tuning, gradation and reduction of glare, where it is all squeezed into a sleek, minimalist package. The flat surface is achieved by the lamination process, where it virtually does away with the visible line between the screen and the bezel whenever no power is supplied to the set.

Sporting a maximum depth of just 1.5″, LG’s SL90 series’ usage of the LED LCD screen will produce an extremely high dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 that results in ever truer blacks (this is where the philosophical question of whether truth is relative or not can be answered) and finer gradations between grays. Apart from that, the film lamination process adds anti-glare properties to the screen by reducing distracting reflections so that anyone who views it will always enjoy a cinema-quality experience. LG will release the 42″ and 47″ models later this Fall for $2,099 and $2,599, respectively.

Panasonic Launches Blu-ray Disc(TM) Home Theater System

Work is extremely demanding these days, and as the saying goes, “a man’s home is his castle” so why not pamper yourself whenever you’re back after a long, hard day at the office? Instead of investing in a spa system, why not keep that mind entertained with the latest blockbusters while your ears enjoy above average audio quality through the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system? This innovative setup will come in a chic design that will definitely complement your flat panel TV regardless of the brand (Panasonic folks will claim it works best with Panasonic VIERAs, of course), while you let your Blu-ray player keep you entertained

Despite coming in a sleek and compact form factor, the SC-BTX70 is no slouch in terms of performance. It might be a 2.1 system, and yet Panasonic has thrown in enough technology to make sure this delivers realistic virtual 7.1 channel sound through a wide listening area. This is made possible thanks to Panasonic’s advanced proprietary surround technology that is able to pump out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD virtual 7.1-channel surround sound. A couple of front speakers that feature a new top mounted speaker design that further expands the listening area, were specially built using rigid, low-density bamboo cones in order to achieve pure sound and crisp dialogue no matter what movie you’re viewing. The Kelton-type subwoofer will ensure robust, reverberating bass for heart-thumping moments, while the 96-kHz Surround Re-master function makes sure your CDs sound pristine.

Within its ultra slim main unit, the power sliding door will open to reveal a Blu-ray Disc player for all your high definition movie needs. No idea on whether this one will work with VUDU services in the future, but we won’t rule it out just yet. Other functions include a Universal Dock for iPod, an SD memory card slot, and a USB terminal. Expect the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system to be out sometime this month for a shade under a grand.
