Will Filipino-American Thia Megia be able to bounce back from her appearance in the bottom three last week with her performance on Wednesday, March 30 (Thursday, March 31 in Manila) during the Elton John-themed night of "American Idol" Season 10?
Thia chose "Daniel," one of the Elton John's biggest hit during the early 70s. "Daniel" is from the outlandish singer-composer's "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player" album.
"American Idol" judge Randy Jackson thought Thia's performance was still safe.
"You know, what I liked about it was that it's a very relaxed side of you that people can hear your beautiful voice... The other thing for me that I didn't like was that it was still, once again very safe. So I don't know how that's gonna help you with voting," Jackson said.
Judge Jennifer Lopez, however, thought the performance was a beautiful moment for Thia.
"That was beauty. That was really beautiful. I like what I'm seeing this week with all the contestants with how much they're internalizing all the songs. And you did that. And this was very well-suited to your voice... I think it was a beautiful moment for you," she said.
"You sang a great Elton John song well," judge Steven Tyler said.
TVLine.com's Michael Slezak ranks Thia at last place on his current top 11 leaderboard, saying the Fil-Am "American Idol" contender is "running out of time to get the voting public to view her as a legitimate threat."
Thia needs to evade landing on the bottom two for her performance as two contestants will be eliminated this week after the judges saved contestant Casey Abrams from elimination last week. However, even if Thia is eliminated this week, she is already part of the show's annual summer tour, together with the other top 11 contestants.
